The Adult Learning Australia (ALA) Board plays a critical role in leading the strategic direction and governance of our organisation and is accountable to the ALA membership.
Our Board members are leaders who bring their experience, expertise and energy to guide and support the organisation to reach its full potential.
We currently have three (3) board vacancies. Nominations must be received by 5pm, Friday 25 April.
Who should nominate?
We are seeking nominations from people who are committed to and passionate about ALA’s core values and vision. Nominees should have demonstrated expertise in two or more of the following areas:
- Adult education
- Advocacy and Influence
- Business development and finance
- Governance
- Policy analysis
ALA Board members are actively involved in advocating for our five key policy areas:
- Adult and community education
- Adult language, literacy and numeracy
- Lifelong learning communities
- Inclusive learning culture
- Educating for sustainable development.

Our vision is for equitable access to learning for all Australians to support social inclusion, social cohesion and economic prosperity. Our work is underpinned by our core values:

Who can nominate?
Only current financial members can nominate for the ALA Board.
Both the nominee and the seconder must have been a registered member of ALA for at least 30 days prior to nomination. If you are not a current member, you must join ALA by 26 March 2025, to be eligible for nomination or to second a nomination.

Board eligibility
To be eligible for appointment to the Board, a nominee is required to have an existing Director ID or be in the process of applying.
Election timeline
24 March: Nominations open
25 April, 5pm AEST: Nominations close
30 April to 14 May: If an election is needed, an online ballot of all members will be held
16 May: New board members announced at 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM)
