About the session
As digital technologies become increasingly embedded in everyday life, adult learners need the knowledge and confidence to navigate the online world safely and securely. This session explores the changing education landscape and the growing importance of cyber security in adult learning. Participants will gain practical strategies to strengthen their own cyber safety, support learners to build essential digital and cyber security skills, and build on approaches and resources that can be applied in a range of adult learning settings.
Participants will:
- Reflect on the changing education and digital landscape.
- Recognise the cyber security needs of adult learners.
- Learn practical ways to help themselves and others stay cyber safe.
- Explore and develop ideas, tools and resources to support learners in building cyber awareness and confidence.

Liz Bonner

Liz is the Chair of the Australian Neighbourhood Houses and Centres Association (ANHCA) and CEO of Cloverdale Community Centre in Geelong, Victoria.
A long-time advocate for grassroots community development, Liz’s background spans education and not-for-profit leadership. Deeply involved in the Neighbourhood House sector, Liz has contributed to governance at local, state and national levels, including serving on the ANHCA Board since 2022.
She is passionate about the power of community-led action and strengthening the role of Neighbourhood Houses and Community Centres as vital social infrastructure across Australia.
Jason Spear

Jason has worked in the Learn Local sector for several years, specialising in digital literacy training for adult learners. He has a passion for digital inclusion and is currently working across inner west communities in Melbourne supporting adult learners to engage and be safe online.
Jason serves as a Digital Mentor for his peers across the Adult and Community Education sector. In recognition of his expertise and experience, Adult Learning Australia has engaged Jason to contribute to a cyber security project currently being undertaken by the organisation. His involvement reflects both his strong digital capabilities and his commitment to supporting the sector to build confidence and capacity in the digital environment.
Nicola Innes

Nicola has worked in the community services space for most of her career – supporting adults to build their foundation skills, whether this be informally or formally as a Youth Worker, Community Education Worker, Literacies Worker or as a TAFE teacher.
Latterly Nicola has been working within the Learn Local space coordinating pre-accredited training for adult learners across the west of Melbourne.
Nicola works for Adult Learning Australia to advocate and support Adult Community Education providers with learning resources and training. Currently Nicola is also doing her PhD on youth transitions through Work Integrated Social Enterprise (WISE) with her case study site being a community education provider that has a WISE embedded.
