WA Training Awards finalists announced

Western Australian Training and Workforce Development Minister Murray Cowper today announced 46 outstanding finalists in the 2012 Western Australian Training Awards.
The finalists, chosen from more than 200 entrants, represent the brightest and best of Western Australia’s vocational education and training sector.
They will vie for the title in their respective categories at a presentation dinner on September 14.

Mr Cowper said the awards, now in their 18th year, celebrated the efforts and achievements of individuals, employers and training providers who were excelling in their field.
“Our State has a world class training system and it is exciting to see this reflected in the world class standard of this year’s finalists,” he said.
“This standard ranges from students who have excelled in their chosen field to employers, trainers and training providers who have introduced innovative practices to support apprentices and trainees.
“They are all helping build a skilled workforce for our State and ensuring the future of our training sector remains strong.”

The Minister said while the awards helped raise the profile of training in WA they also represented the diversity of the sector with finalists in 14 categories, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Student of the Year.

Winners will represent WA at Australian Training Awards in November
