Community engagement is becoming integral to how providers of public services operate. It is considered a key to both project success and risk reduction. It is increasingly a ‘must have’ competency for anyone overseeing programs that have an impact on the community, or require the involvement of stakeholders for project success.

Through participating in this ‘learning by doing’ interactive workshop, you will gain an
appreciation of the importance of developing well considered community engagement plans and be able to discern effective community engagement from “tokenistic community consultation”.

Participants will also understand that community engagement is much more than providing opportunities for the vocal minority. Quality engagement requires a planned and comprehensive approach to identifying stakeholders and properly understanding their interests before deciding on the tools and techniques to interact with them.
It is emerging as a discipline in its own right, with a body of knowledge and particular areas of expertise.
