ALA webinar: Foundation Skills Professional Standards Framework

Who is a foundation skills specialist?

Is there a foundation skills field?

A scoping project is underway to generate discussion among those working in foundation skills to define and strengthen the identity of the field, advance the status and standing of the profession and explore options for developing professional standards.

To be meaningful and effective, professional standards should be determined by the members of the profession, rather than mandated by an external authority. The aim of this scoping project is therefore to facilitate discussion among individuals and organisations with a commitment to raising the knowledge and skills base of practitioners involved in building the foundation skills of Australian adults.

ALA are hosting a webinar to provide feedback on the discussion paper – “Scoping a Foundation Skills Professional Standards Framework”. This webinar will be facilitated by Louise Wignall.

Louise Wignall has worked in the education sector for the past 25 years as a teacher, resource developer, policy advisor and quality assurance manager with a specialisation in adult literacy and learning in the community, vocational education and training (VET) and the workplace. She is currently involved in a number of national and State-based Foundation Skills initiatives at both a policy and implementation level.
