Socio-cultural learning and Aboriginal adult English LLN delivery

A case study commissioned by the Australian Government funded Whole of Community Engagement initiative (led by Charles Darwin University) documents Yuendumu communities’ experience of literacy development and socio-cultural learning.  The case study has been written to inform discussion and debate, and inspire evidence based action around adult English LLN in the Northern Territory.  We are pleased to share it with you here

A socio-cultural model of literacy provision is underpinned by current social and cultural practices, and local delivery matched to people’s real-life needs, preferences and realities.  This report strongly suggests that the local learning centre model is key to improvement of Aboriginal literacy, to the embedding of literacy and the maintenance of learning over time.
