ALA webinar: The Little Things project

The Little Things project, which is led by the Farnham Street Neighbourhood Learning Centre in partnership with Meaningful Ageing Australia.

The Little Things project is evidence-based training kit on intercultural communication built on authentic interactions between highly skilled PCAs from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD) backgrounds and older people who are accessing aged care.


Pip’s webinar will cover:

Features of the training kit’s development including building the partnership and the evidence it is based on (inc the applied linguistics research). It will also provide some insights into what’s included in the kit and how it can be used.


About our presenter


Pip Mackey
Lead Trainer – The Little Things
MA (Applied Linguistics), GradDipEd (TESOL), BA, Cert IV TAE.

Pip was the project coordinator, principal researcher and a training materials developer for
The Little Things: Intercultural communication for personal care work in aged care, 2018-2020. She
has worked as an English as an additional language (EAL) teacher and education manager in community settings over the past 20 years. She has also taught EAL and English for specific purposes in TAFE and ELICOS programs. She has facilitated various adult community education projects with people experiencing homelessness or living in rooming houses, people with psychiatric illnesses, indigenous Australians, migrants and refugees. Throughout her career, Pip has valued drawing on the experiences and perspectives of others to support meaningful engagement.
