ALA webinar: Aboriginal English and code-switching


This session aims to focus on Aboriginal English as a social, cultural and linguistical marker in Indigenous Tertiary Education and to promote an understanding of the languages spoken by Aboriginal people when processing and analysing new academic concepts, jargons, and terminologies. It will include a learner voice with regards to learning in an additional language.

About the presenters

Robyn Ober

Dr. Robyn Ober is a Mamu/Djirribal woman from North Queensland and a respected researcher in Indigenous educational leadership and both-ways teaching and learning. Her doctoral work investigated identity and culture expressed in and through Aboriginal English. Dr Ober’s expertise has been called upon in numerous consultancies on education delivery, both-ways education, Indigenous research methodologies in the Northern Territory, national and international indigenous educational contexts.

Saraya Daniel

Soraya is a young woman from the Torres Strait, currently working and studying in Port Hedland. She will provide some input on the learner voice with regards to learning in an additional language.
