Do you believe in equitable access to lifelong learning? Nominate for the ALA Board

The Adult Learning Australia (ALA) Board plays a critical role in leading the strategic direction and governance of our organisation, and is accountable to the ALA membership. Our Board members are leaders who bring their experience, expertise and energy to guide and support the organisation to reach its full potential. We currently have 3 board vacancies.

Who should nominate in 2024?

We are seeking nominations from people who are committed to and passionate about ALA’s core values and vision. Nominees should have demonstrated expertise in two or more of the following:

  • Adult education
  • Advocacy and influence
  • Business development and finance
  • Governance
  • Policy analysis

ALA Board members are actively involved in advocating for our 5 key policy areas:

  1. Adult and community education
  2. Adult language, literacy and numeracy
  3. Lifelong learning communities
  4. Inclusive learning culture
  5. Educating for sustainable development

Who can nominate?

Only current financial members can nominate for the ALA Board. We encourage all members, both long term and new, to consider nominating for one of the available positions.

ALA recognises the importance of diversity to our culture, performance and social impact. We are committed to diversity, inclusion and equity.

The nomination must be seconded by another registered member. Both the nominee and the seconder must have been a registered member of ALA for at least 30 days prior to nomination. If you are not a current member, you must join ALA by 28 March 2024, to be eligible for nomination.

To be eligible for appointment to the Board a nominee is required to have an existing Director ID or be prepared to get one.  Directors need to apply for their own director ID. It’s free to apply.

Election timeline

Nominations open: 21 March 2024

Nominations close: 5pm AEST 26 April 2024

Online ballot of all members: 29 April to 13 May 2024

New board members announced: 17 May 2024 at the ALA AGM
