E-learning in VET gets a boost

The National VET E-learning Strategy is set to boost the innovative use of e-learning in the vocational education and training (VET) sector, with a release of guidelines for new
co-investment funding opportunities in 2012.

The joint Australian State and Territory Government initiative is offering co-investment funding for projects which strengthen the Australian training sector’s use of new learning technologies; stimulating innovative approaches to increasing participation in training and employment and improving the skill levels of the Australian workforce.

The E-learning for Participation and Skills initiative will partner with projects utilising high-speed broadband (including the National Broadband Network) to address the development of pre-vocational and vocational skills or pathways to higher qualifications.

“These projects will build on successful training sector trials conducted in the first part of 2012,” says Chair of the Flexible Learning Advisory Group (FLAG) responsible for the Strategy, Raymond Garrand.

”We’re looking to help the VET sector capitalise on the rollout of the NBN by supporting projects that inform future models and strategies for delivery,” says Mr Garrand.

E-learning for Participation and Skills Business Manager, Fiona Huskinson, says a feature of the application process is the ability for interested stakeholders to receive feedback on project concepts before lodging their application.

“Feedback can be sought through state and territory based E-learning Coordinators, who are available to discuss e-learning ideas,” says Ms Huskinson.

Individual applications for up to $50,000 of co-investment funding through the E-learning for Participation and Skills program close on 15 August 2012.

Application guidelines and E-learning Coordinator contacts are available online at www.flexiblelearning.net.au.
